The Heart Algorithm : A story of Runanubandha

Padma Iyer

The Heart Algorithm: A Story of Runanubandha (Dil. Deewangi. Dastaan) is a deeply intimate literary novel about love that does not end, survival that changes everything, and the invisible karmic bonds that shape our lives.
Set between the high-pressure world of Bangalore’s startup ecosystem, the sterile intensity of a Los Angeles cardiac ICU, and the quiet stillness of a Himalayan monastery, the novel follows Mira, a brilliant, driven woman whose life fractures after a life-saving heart surgery. As her body heals, old truths surface—about desire, duty, motherhood, and a love she never allowed herself to fully claim.

At the center of the story is Runanubandha, an ancient Sanskrit concept describing soul-debts and karmic ties that persist across lifetimes. Mira’s bond with Arjun—her collaborator, confidant, and the man who knows her most deeply—defies conventional labels. Their relationship is neither simple nor sanctioned, yet it becomes the force that awakens her to who she truly is.

Told in three movements—Dil (Heart), Deewangi (Madness), and Dastaan (Destiny)—the novel blends medical realism, spiritual inquiry, and emotional intimacy to explore what happens when love matures but never resolves. As Mira navigates motherhood, ambition, physical loss, and spiritual reckoning, she must confront a question that lingers beneath every choice: What do we owe the people who awaken us—even if we cannot keep them?
Lyrical, emotionally precise, and unflinchingly honest, The Heart Algorithm is a meditation on resilience, identity, and the quiet courage it takes to live with an unfinished love.
