Dr Mina Monroe is on the edge of a perfect life.

Having recently earned a doctorate in psychology and announced her engagement to childhood sweetheart Detective Sergeant Matthew Appleson, Mina is keen to make her mark on the world – but her speciality in murder is scorned by her peers and deemed too unseemly a subject for women.

Upon hearing that infamous murderer Julius Head - The Supper Club Killer - is to be evaluated for trial, Mina sees this as an opportunity to develop and publish a thesis on killers and their psyches. Without telling Matthew, Mina starts meeting regularly with Julius to understand his reasoning, his history, and his alluring mind.
