Before We Wrap

by

Chrissie Harrison

A workplace romcom that pairs a slow-burn love story with a journey of neurodiverse discovery. Wrestling with a friends-to-lovers dilemma, career prospects, and weighty themes, our two film crew have a lot on their production schedule…

Kate, a vital cog on the film set, likes pushing people around. Her favourite coworker is Spencer, a warm and wonderful camera operator. People call them the ‘dream team’… but she could never tell Spencer that he’s all she dreams of.

Spencer loves having Kate on his camera crew. She’s dedicated, trustworthy, meticulous and smooth as silk to work alongside. He also knows she’s idiosyncratic, contained and private. Outside of work, they seldom meet. In fact, they know very little about each other.

He could never know that Kate’s always battling insecurities, aware that she’s different but apprehensive about finding out more. Deep down, she knows that if they dated and things didn’t work out, their professional relationship would be over—and it’s not worth the risk.

It’s day one of new film shoot with a hotshot American director and beautiful but tricky Hollywood leading lady Carrie DeVere… and things don’t start well.

This production will push Kate and Spencer closer together than they’d ever thought possible, forcing them to deal with demons at work and at home. Could love conquer everything, or might it ruin what they have?

About the Author

Chrissie Harrison

I’m an incurable romantic, and a sucker for great humour. I’ve been writing for many years, and all the stories contain love, humour, or both – I simply can’t keep these elements out of my work.

I have a soft spot for stories with strong women and nerdy or hapless guys – and sometimes pathos or bittersweet vibes. I like the connection between my protagonists to be more than physical; a way for them to bond and help solve each other’s problems. I’m also keen to shine a light on mental health issues, especially anxiety and neurodiversity, as these are close to my heart. My novels are dual POV stories, sweet rather than spicy, and often put a twist on genre staples whilst being centred on relatable relationships and situations.

I’m inspired by the big and small screen as well as books, and have a soft spot for Richard Curtis’ romcoms, timeless TV comedy like The Good Life and Blackadder, less well-known feelgood films and romances (Always, Forget Paris, Roxanne), and newer, brilliantly observed or scripted shows (Colin From Accounts, Dinosaur). Books which make me laugh include Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine, The Rosie Project, Cat Lady, and The Hating Game.

Outside of writing, I enjoy photography, great scenery, a nice peaceful train ride, delicious coffee and cake, and catching up with old friends.

Chrissie Harrison is a pen name.
