The Forgotten Flame

The Forgotten Flame

by

Rea Alexandris

A kingdom on the edge of war. A girl marked by fire. A love that could destroy them both.

Kaelara Veylin was never meant to wield magic. In a land where power is forbidden, she should have lived and died as a blacksmith’s daughter. But when a single spark ignites a rebellion, she is thrust into a world of dark intrigue, royal deception, and ancient magic that refuses to stay buried.

Her abilities make her a target—hunted by the Iron Guard, sought after by those who would use her flame as a weapon. With war brewing and her power growing dangerously unstable, Kaelara finds herself torn between paths:

A rebellion that sees her as their savior.
A kingdom that would see her burned.
And a forbidden connection with Dain Arvath—a Prince bound by duty, but drawn to her fire.
As her flames burn brighter and the gods whisper of her destiny, Kaelara must decide: Will she become a force of salvation… or the spark that turns Aeryndor to ash?

About the Author

Rea Alexandris

Proof that anything is possible, Rea Alexandris is living her dream of writing fantasy novels—even while juggling three kids, a husband, a full-time job, and a very opinionated cat who believes he is the true ruler of the house.

Living in the heart of Brussels, where old-world charm meets modern chaos, Rea finds inspiration in ancient myths, rebellious heroines, and that one time she almost spilled coffee on her laptop but managed to save the manuscript just in time.

Outlawed magic, a chosen one, and forbidden attraction

The Forgotten Flame is a gripping fantasy with outlawed magic, a chosen one, and forbidden attraction… So many great things all rolled into one. It has some really beautiful writing, very metaphorical and almost haunting in places. I highlighted so many passages.

Plot ⭐⭐⭐⭐
This book is the classic hero’s journey, in the best way. Prophecies, discovering new powers, a grouchy mentor. I loved seeing Kaelara’s struggle with learning to control her power, overcoming self-doubt, and embracing her destiny. I can't wait to see where her journey takes her next.

Characters ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Our protagonist Kaelara is a strong-willed, capable blacksmith’s daughter used to doing hard work, but with the weight of the world thrust on her shoulders, she struggles in a very relatable way. As a “chosen one” hero, she strikes a nice balance of being thrust into situations but still making her own choices and guiding the course of the book.

Meanwhile, the supporting cast is excellent. Elden, the grouchy mentor. Dain, the stoic captain of the Iron Guard… and Kaelara’s enemy who she has an undeniable attraction to. Evric, the snarky, charming rebel. I love all of them.

Worldbuilding ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I can’t wait to see more of the worldbuilding in future books. There are a few types of magic mentioned, mostly focused on the Flamebearers’ fire magic. They use incantations and runes to guide their magic. There’s also snippets of shadow magic and other things that I would love to see become more defined as Kaelara learns more about her world’s magic, which the king tried to squash out.
