What is Stuff Your Kindle?
Stuff Your Kindle is typically a 24-48 hour period when authors make their books available for free or at a discounted price. Typically, they are genre-specific, and some are hard to get into without knowing someone who knows someone who knows that person. Websites host these events virtually, either through social media or a dedicated webpage. Readers join in on the day of the event to download hundreds of books at once, because who doesn't love a good deal?
However, these events aren't limited to just Kindle! Kobo users can also get these deals for their books!
When do these events happen?
Stuff Your Kindle events happen throughout the year on various platforms. A quick Google search, and you'll probably find hundreds, if not thousands, of different SYK events available to you.
What's different about IAC's Stuff Your Kindle events?
Unlike many platforms that offer a typical 24 or 48-hour sale, IAC gives people a chance to find our events. Let's face it, life happens, and sometimes we get busy or forget. So we extended our sales to take place over 4-5 days. This is optimal for authors, as it gives readers a better chance to find their books. And it's great for readers, because they have a longer opportunity to get their hands on some amazing books!
Not only do we have longer sales, but we also host themed events every month, allowing authors to connect with their readers and readers to discover the books they want.
How do I participate as a reader?
As a reader, you can find our list of events on our website. From this list, you can RSVP to the events that really pique your interest so you can find books that you know you'll enjoy! You will receive an email after you RSVP confirming your place. Once the day of the event hits, we will email you a dedicated link to join in on the fun!
When you join in, make sure you use a web browser on your phone or hit a desktop computer! Amazon won't let you purchase Kindle books from the Amazon app, so make sure you are clicking the right thing.
Do not click "Read for Free". Click the "Buy Now" button to purchase the book for free or $0.99!
Do I need a Kindle to participate?
You don't need a Kindle, but you do need some sort of e-reader or the Kindle app on your phone. At IAC, we offer both Kindle and Kobo, but not all authors will have their books on both platforms.
How do I participate as an Author?
To participate in our events, simply fill out a form and set up the promo on KDP. You can find all of the forms for our events on our website. See the instructions below for how to set up the promo!
If you registered for Kindle Unlimited (also known as KDP Select):
Sign in to your KDP account and scroll to the Kindle version of your book that you want to put into the event.
Click "Promote and Advertise".
Choose either "Kindle Countdown deal" if you want to $0.99 or Free Book Promotion.
Click the yellow button below the selections.
If you choose Kindle Countdown:
Select the marketplace (we recommend doing both Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk).
Input the start and end days, which should match the days of the event.
Input the price.
Click Continue.
You're all set!
If you choose Free Book Promotion:
Input the start and end dates.
Click Continue.
You're all set!
If your book is not registered under Kindle Unlimited & you are listed elsewhere (like Kobo):
Set up your discount on other sites first. This is vital!
Ask Amazon to price match on the dates for the event.
Wait for Amazon to respond.
If your book is not on Kindle Unlimited & you're only on Amazon:
You have two options:
Start the discount early and set your price to $0.99 or free.
Set a reminder to reduce your price 2-3 days before the event starts.
